Product Description

A completely revised mid-range model series was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1989. The main focus of the facelift was the restyling of the body and the new-look interior.
The most distinctive feature of the facelifted models was the protective side strips with integral side skirt panels, a similar form of which had been introduced on the Coupé models two and a half years earlier.
At the upper edge there were narrow trim strips in polished stainless steel which continued on the upper edge of the front and rear aprons, bringing back a much missed touch of chrome after a long absence.
This effect was reinforced by chromed trim elements on the door handles and modified wheel trim with a chromed Mercedes star logo and a narrow trim ring around the circumference.
Other changes included the colour of the add-on parts. Like the protective side strips, the front and rear aprons, the lower handle strip on the rear and, as an option, the wheel trim, were finished in a shade which coordinated with the exterior paintwork, while the exterior mirror housings and the upper handle strip on the rear were painted in body colour.
The interior also had a new design, with improved front and rear seats and numerous detailed enhancements.
